Introduction Last updated: 2026-10-16

ediFabric reads, writes, validates, and acknowledges EDI in three ways: ediFabric .NET inside a .NET application, ediFabric Native from Python, Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, C, or C# through a native library, and ediFabric Cloud as a REST API. All three use the same serial key and the same plan.

Get a serial key

To evaluate any product without an account, use the demo serial key bd96a836feca45cb91c86ee65d281f52. It works for ediFabric .NET, Native, and Cloud, and has a limited quota. When it runs out, sign up for Community and copy your own serial from Your account. One serial works for .NET, Native, and Cloud. Community is free, never expires, and is for non-production use. The first 14 days after you subscribe have unlimited operations, then the quota is 250 per day shared across all three products. To extend the unlimited period, ask through the support portal or at support@edifabric.com. One operation is one parse, generate, validate, or acknowledge call.

Choose a product

Product Use it from Standards How to get it
ediFabric .NET C# and any .NET 8, 9, 10 or .NET Framework 4.8 application X12, HIPAA, EDIFACT, HL7, NCPDP, IATA PADIS, VDA, EDIGAS, flat files NuGet package
ediFabric Native Python, Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, C, C#, or any language that can call a C library, on Windows, Linux and macOS X12 and HIPAA. EDIFACT, NCPDP, HL7 and others follow. Package from PyPI, npm, Maven Central, Go modules, crates.io or NuGet, or a library download
ediFabric Cloud Any language or tool that can make an HTTPS request X12, HIPAA, EDIFACT, HL7, NCPDP, VDA Nothing to install

.NET and Native run in your own process, so EDI data never leaves your network. Cloud is hosted by ediFabric.

ediFabric .NET

A .NET library that reads EDI into typed C# objects, writes them back to EDI, and validates them. It ships as the EdiFabric NuGet package, and reads EDI into C# templates that you download from the EDI spec library.

  1. From the project directory, install the library:

    dotnet add package EdiFabric

    Then download the C# templates for your transactions from the EDI spec library and add them to a class library, as described in EDI templates. Every plan, Community or paid, uses the same templates.

  2. Set the serial before any other call:

    License.SetSerial("YOUR_SERIAL_KEY");

    To try it without an account, use the demo serial key bd96a836feca45cb91c86ee65d281f52, which is also set in the C# examples. See Get a serial key.

  3. Read a file:

    using (var reader = new X12Reader(File.OpenRead("PurchaseOrders.txt"), "ClassLibrary1"))
    {
        var purchaseOrders = reader.ReadToEnd().OfType<TS850>();
    }

ediFabric Native

A native library that converts X12 to JSON and JSON back to X12, with validation and acknowledgments, inside your own process. Use it from Python, Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, C, or C# through the official bindings.

  1. Install the package for your language. Each package bundles the library for Windows x64, Linux x64 and arm64, and macOS arm64:

    pip install edifabric-x12                          # Python
    npm install edifabric-x12                          # Node.js
    go get github.com/EdiFabric/edifabric-go-bindings  # Go
    go get github.com/EdiFabric/edifabric-go-bindings/native
    cargo add edifabric-x12                            # Rust
    dotnet add package EdiFabric.Native.X12            # C#

    For Java, add com.edifabric:edifabric-x12-native from Maven Central. For C, C++ or any other language, download the library for your platform, put it next to your executable, and call the C ABI. The bindings and examples are on GitHub: Python, Java, Node.js, Go, Rust, C and C#.

  2. Set the serial and parse a file. In Python:

    import json
    import edifabric_x12 as ef

    serial = "YOUR_SERIAL_KEY"
    ef.load_library()
    ef.set_serial(serial)
    ef.set_map(json.dumps({"default": serial, "maps": {}}))

    output, offset = ef.parse(open("PurchaseOrders.txt", "rb").read(), ef.ParseMode.JSON_VALIDATE)

The Windows binaries are Authenticode-signed, the Linux binaries have a detached .asc signature, and the macOS binaries are codesigned. The Download article shows how to verify them.

ediFabric Cloud

A REST API that reads, writes, validates, and acknowledges EDI. Send a file or JSON over HTTPS and get JSON or EDI back. There is nothing to install.

  1. Send the serial on every request as the Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Key header.
  2. POST an EDI file to the read endpoint for its standard (x12, edifact, hl7, ncpdp, or vda):

    curl -X POST "https://api.edination.com/v2/x12/read" \
      -H "Ocp-Apim-Subscription-Key: YOUR_SERIAL_KEY" \
      -H "Content-Type: application/octet-stream" \
      --data-binary @purchase-order.edi

Use /write to turn JSON back into EDI, /validate to check it, and /ack for X12 997, 999, TA1, or EDIFACT CONTRL. Treat the serial like a password and do not ship it in browser code.
