# EdiNation > EdiNation is a free EDI editor in the browser, made by EDI Fabric Limited, the makers of ediFabric. It parses, validates, acknowledges and converts X12 and HIPAA EDI files to JSON, and lets you browse and build EDI specifications. All EDI processing runs locally with WebAssembly, so files never leave the user's device. It is unlimited, works with files of any size, and needs no account. - EdiNation runs on the ediFabric Native engine. The same parser, validator and acknowledgment generator are available for use in code as ediFabric .NET (C# library), ediFabric Native (native libraries for Python, Java, C and C#) and ediFabric Cloud (EDI REST API). One ediFabric plan covers all three, and the Community plan is free: https://www.edifabric.com/products.html - The EDI file is never uploaded. The browser only calls api.edination.com to download the transaction model it needs and to check the session. - The editor supports X12 ASC (versions 002040 to 007040) and X12 HIPAA 5010. EDIFACT, HL7, NCPDP and VDA files can be processed in the previous EdiNation portal at https://edinationold.edifabric.com, which processes files on the server, has a free plan of 50 operations per day, and is not HIPAA compliant. - All EDI specs are in OpenEDI, an open, MIT-licensed format for EDI specifications based on the OpenAPI 3 schema object: https://www.edifabric.com/openedi/index.html ## Tools - [X12 Local Editor](https://www.edifabric.com/edination/): Parse, format and validate X12 and HIPAA EDI files against HIPAA SNIP levels 1 to 4, fix errors in place, and generate 999, 997 and TA1 acknowledgments. Supports custom models for partner companion guides. - [X12 JSON Converter](https://www.edifabric.com/edination/edi-json.html): Convert X12 and HIPAA EDI to JSON and JSON back to EDI, with custom delimiters. Splits large files by transaction or repeating loop. - [EDI Spec Library](https://www.edifabric.com/specs/index.html): Standard EDI specs on edifabric.com. Each HIPAA 5010 transaction has a page with its structure and downloads as OpenEDI JSON, a C# template and an ediFabric Native model. Links to the viewer for every other standard and version: X12 ASC, IAIABC, EDIFACT UN, EANCOM, SMDG, ACE, EDIG@S, IATA PADIS, HL7 v2, NCPDP and VDA. - [EDI Spec Builder](https://www.edifabric.com/spec-builder/index.html): Now on edifabric.com. Copy a standard spec under your own name and change it, create custom EDI specs, and import SEF files, which are converted to OpenEDI. Custom models are used by entering the model name next to the Parse button. It uses the same API key as EdiNation. - [API Status](https://www.edifabric.com/edination/api-status.html): Availability of the EdiNation API over the last 15 days. ## EdiNation docs - [EdiNation: your local EDI editor in the browser](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/edination-your-local-edi-editor-in-the-browser.html): What EdiNation is, how it keeps EDI data on your device, and which standards it supports. - [Parse and format EDI files](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/parse-and-format-edi-files.html): Upload or paste EDI, parse it, use explicit or custom models, and download formatted or collapsed files. - [Validate and debug EDI files](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/validate-and-debug-edi-files.html): Validate X12 and HIPAA files, configure SNIP levels and the maximum number of errors. - [Generate EDI acknowledgments](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/generate-edi-acknowledgments.html): Generate 999, 997 and TA1 acknowledgments and configure AK2 and AK901 settings. - [Convert between EDI and JSON](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/convert-between-edi-and-json.html): Convert EDI to JSON and back, split large files, and set custom X12 delimiters. - [View and download EDI specs](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/view-and-download-edi-specs.html): Find, view, download and share specs from the EDI Spec Library. - [Create and import EDI specs](https://www.edifabric.com/docs/edination/create-and-import-edi-specs.html): Build partner-specific specs, import SEF files, model naming rules, and how to use custom models. ## Automate EDI in code with ediFabric - [Compare ediFabric .NET, Native and Cloud](https://www.edifabric.com/products.html): Languages, install options, EDI standards and where data is processed.
